The JGR Class 4500 (originally the Nippon Railway Class Ma2/2+2/2) and the related Class 4510 (originally the Hokkaido Railway Class D1) were 0-4-4-0T side tank Mallet locomotives built for the JGR from 1902.

History

The 4500 was used mainly as a freight locomotive and was the first Mallet locomotive that was used on the JGR. One locomotive was built by J.A. Maffei in 1902 and imported into Japan. 4500 would be displayed at the Osaka International Industrial Exhibition before entering service. A later locomotive, Class 4510, was introduced, which was identical to the 4500 but featured slightly larger drivers. The locomotives were retired in 1924.

Both 4500 and 4510 did not survive into preservation. It is unknown if any photos of 4510 exist.
