The JGR Class 3425 (originally the Tsukuba Railway Class 5) was a 2-6-2T Prairie-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1923 to 1947.

History

The Class 3425 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was manufactured initially for the Tsukuba Railway, with three locomotives manufactured by Kisha Seizō and delivered in 1923; the locomotive was classified the Class 5 and numbered 5 through 7. 5 was later transferred to the Bisai Railway and renumbered 3.

When the Bisai Railway was acquired by the JGR in 1943, 5 was reclassified as the Class 3425 and renumbered as such; the two locomotives which remained on the Tsukuba Railway did not receive the new classification or were renumbered but were still technically the same locomotives. 3425 was used for construction of Datemombesu Station on the Boshishin Transit Railway in Hokkaido; the locomotive was then retired in 1947 and scrapped. 6 was used until the 1950s while 7 was used until as late as 1965 and retired. No Class 3425s have been preserved.
