The JGR Class 3380 (originally the Sanyo Railway Class 28) was a 2-6-2T Prairie-type Vauclain compound side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1897 to 1925.

History

The Class 3380 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Sanyō Railway with four locomtives built in their own Hyōgo Works; these were initially designated as the Class 28 locomotives. As with a number of Sanyō Railway steam locomotives at the time, the Class 28s were Vauclain compound steam locomotives.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotives were renumbered the Class 3880, and later revised to Class 3380. The locomotives were retired in 1925, with one locomotive, 3382, retired early due to a crash. No Class 3380s have been preserved. These were likely the last Vauclain compound steam locomotives built and used in Japan.
