The JGR Class 3080 (originally the JGR Class AB) was a 2-6-2T Prairie-type compound side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1888 to 1916.

History

The Class 3080 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the JGR, with two locomotives built by Nasmyth, Wilson and Company in the United Kingdom and delivered to the railroad in 1888; these were classified the Class AB and numbered 102 and 104. The classification was changed to Class B5 in 1894 and the locomotives renumbered 74 and 76.

The locomotives were reclassified the Class 3080 when a formal rule regarding standardization of locomotive naming was introduced in 1909. The locomotives were retired in 1916 on the JGR, with both sold to private railroads. 3080 moved to the Bibai Railway while 3081 moved to the Kokura Railway; these locomotives served until the 1930s and were then retired. No Class 3080s have been preserved.
