The JGR Class 3005 (originally the Karafuto Prefectural Railway Class 1) was a 2-6-2T Prairie-type saddle tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1912 to 1945.

History

The Class 3005 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Karafuto Prefectural Railway, with a single locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company and delivered to the railroad in 1912; it was classified the Class 1 and numbered as such. The locomotive was designed for use in colder climates.

When the Karafuto Prefectural Railway was acquired by the JGR in 1944, the Class 1 locomotive was reclassified as the Class 3005 and renumbered as such. The locomotive was then used for the construction of a narrow gauge railroad. The locomotive was requisitioned by the Soviet Union after their takeover of Karafuto and in 1945 and its JGR service life ended there; it is not clear what happened to it on the Soviet Railways although the locomotive was likely scrapped.
