The JGR Class 3000 (originally the Hokkaido Government Railway Class D2) was a 2-6-2T Prairie-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1899 to 1941.

History

The Class 3000 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Hokkaido Government Railway, with two locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and delivered to the railroad in 1899; these were classified the Class D2 and numbered 8 and 9. One more locomotive was delivered in 1900 and numbered 12. The locomotives were renamed the Class 3000 in 1909 with a rule having been enacted to standardize locomotive naming.

The locomotives were then loaned to the Karafuto Prefectural Railway in 1910, who then went on to acquire the locomotives in 1915. On this railroad their numbers went unchanged. The locomotives were retired in 1941, well before the Karafuto Prefectural Railway was acquired by the JGR. No Class 3000s have been preserved.
