The JGR Class 205 (originally the Ube Railway Class 100) was a 2-4-2T Columbian-type saddle tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1923 to 1955.

History

The Class 205 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Ube Railway, with two locomotives constructed by the Vulcan Iron Works in the United States and imported into Japan in 1923. The locomotives were classified as the Class 100 and numbered 100 and 101 on the Ube Railway.

After the Ube Railway was acquired by the JGR during the Pacific War, the locomotives were reclassified as the Class 205 and renumbered 205 and 206. The locomotives were retired from JGR service in 1943, with both locomotives transferred; 205 was transferred to Toshiba's Fuchū Plant, while 206 was transferred to the Ewaka Railway. 205 was used as a stationery boiler in its later years, while 206 was transferred to Kobe Steel in 1949, reclassified the Class L6 and retired in 1955. No Class 205s have been preserved.
