The JGR Class 1745 (originally the Chūgoku Railway Class 5) was a 0-6-0T Switcher-type side well tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1907 to 1952.

History

The Class 1745 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Chūgoku Railway, with one locomotives built by Kerr, Stuart and Company in 1907 and delivered the same year. The locomotive was assigned the Class 5 and numbered 9, and was internally classified by Kerr Stuart as one of their Argentina-class locomotives.

After the Chūgoku Railway was acquired in 1944, the locomotive was reclassified the Class 1745 and renumbered as such. Due to its bulk the locomotive was disliked by the crews who ran it on the Chūgoku Railway. The locomotives was retired from JGR service in March 1949 and resold to Kawasaki Steel in January 1952. The locomotive was numbered NUS9 and served until August 1966 and subsequently scrapped.
