The JGR Class 1355 (originally the Sagami Railway Class 1) was a 0-6-0T Switcher-type side tank steam locomotives operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1924 to 1949.
History[]
The Class 1355 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Sagami Railway, with two locomotives built by Kisha Seizō and delivered to the railroad in 1924; another two locomotives were delivered in 1926. The locomotives were classified as the Class 1 locomotives and numbered 1 through 4. There are some minor differences between both batches of locomotives.
When the Sagami Railway was temporarily acquired by the JGR in 1944, the Class 1 locomotives were reclassified as the Class 1355 locomotives and renumbered 1355 through 1358. The locomotives were retired by 1949 on the JGR, after which the locomotives were all moved to various industrial railroads, with the last locomotives retired after 1964. 1356 was displayed at Fuji-Q Highland for a time but was ultimately scrapped. No Class 1355s have been preserved.
