The JGR Class 1340 (originally the Shinano Railway Class 6) and the related Class 1345 (originally the Shinano Railway Class 7) were 0-6-0T Switcher-type side tank steam locomotives operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1922 to 1949.

History

The Class 1340 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Shinano Railway, with two locomotives built by Amemiya Seisakusho and delivered to the railroad in 1922. The locomotives were classified as the Class 6 locomotives and numbered 10 and 11. A third similar locomotive, the Class 7, was built by the same company and delivered in 1924. The locomotive was numbered 12 on the railroad.

When the Shinano Railway was acquired by the JGR in 1937, the Class 6 and 7 locomotives were reclassified as the Class 1340 and Class 1345 locomotives respectively and numbered 1340 and 1341 and 1345. After their acquisition from the JGR the locomotives saw use on industrial railroads until they were all retired by 1950. No Class 1340s have been preserved; few photos are known to exist.
