The JGR Class 1300 (originally the Sōbu Railway Class 3) was a 0-6-0T Switcher-type saddle tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1894 to October 1934.

History

The Class 1300 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Sōbu Railway, with a single locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in the United States and imported into Japan in 1894. The locomotive was assigned the Class 3 and numbered 4 on the Sōbu Railway; the locomotive was later renumbered 14.

When the Sōbu Railway was nationalized in 1909, the locomotive was reclassified as the Class 1300 and numbered as such. The locomotive was transferred to the Ashio Railway with the delay in order of four steam locomotives on the railroad and so 1300 was used for a brief time. A rental contract was then signed between the JGR and Ashio Railway and the locomotive was returned to JGR ownership; curiously the locomotive was redesignated the Class 1295 and renumbered as such despite not having been modified. The locomotive was then transferred to the Tama Railway in 1918, retired in October 1934 and subsequently scrapped.
