The JGR Class 1180 (originally the Kōya Railway Class 1) and the related Class 1370 (originally the Kiwa Railway Class B2) were 0-6-0T Switcher-type side tank steam locomotives operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1900 to 1955.

History

The Class 1180 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Kōya Railway, with three locomotives ordered from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1900 and imported into Japan. These were numbered 5 to 7 on the Kōya Railway. A fourth locomotive was ordered by the Kiwa Railway in 1902; it was imported into Japan, classified the Class B2 and numbered 8. 6 was transferred to the Kiwa Railway and 7 the Hokkaido Railway and were classified the Class B2 and Class 1 respectively on those railroads. 6 would then be moved to the Kansai Railway, reclassified the Class 86, nicknamed the Hayabusa (lit. "peregrine falcon") and renumbered as such.

After the Railway Nationalization Act was passed in 1909, the locomotives were reclassified as the Class 1180 while the Kiwa Railway locomotive was classified the Class 1370; the locomotive remaining on the Kōya Railway was not renumbered. In their later lives, the locomotives were later used for industrial use and for construction of dams and other related structures. The Class 1370 was retired in 1948 and scrapped, while the remaining Class 1180s were retired by 1955. No Class 1180s have been preserved.
