The JGR Class 1150 was a 4-4-2T Atlantic-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1927 to 1952.
History[]
The Class 1060 was one of a number of tank locomotive conversions of existing tender locomotives undertaken by the JGR in their later years. Nineteen of the twenty-four Class 6300 locomotives were converted into Class 1150 locomotives by JGR's Hamamatsu and Takatori Works; the five unconverted locomotives were subsequently scrapped. The locomotives were converted from 1927 to 1928 and renumbered to 1150 to 1168.
The trains were initially assigned to the Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Sendai. All locomotives were retired by 1952, with three sold to private railroads. No Class 1150s have been preserved. The earlier Class 1150 locomotives are not related to this locomotive.
