The JGR Class 1060 was a 4-4-2T Atlantic-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1924 to 1936.
History[]
The Class 1060 was one of a number of tank locomotive conversions of existing tender locomotives undertaken by the JGR in their later years. All seven Class 6120 locomotives were converted into Class 1060 locomotives by JGR's Takatori Works. The locomotives were converted from 1924 to 1925 and renumbered to 1060 to 1066.
The trains were initially assigned to the Katamachi Line, but they were lated relegated to shunting duties in Himeji and Takatori. All locomotives were retired by 1936, with none sold to private railroads. No Class 1060s have been preserved. The earlier Class 1060 locomotives are not related to this locomotive.
