The JGR Class 1045 (originally the Chōshū Railway Class A1) is a 0-6-0T Switcher-type side tank steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways from 1913 to 1964.

The Class 1045 was an early steam locomotive operated in Japan. The type was ordered by the Chōshū Railway, with three locomotives built by the H.K. Porter, Inc. The locomotives were assigned the Class A1 and numbered 1 and 3. The locomotives entered service the same year and were the first locomotives on the railroad. Three similar locomotives were also manufactured for other railroads, particularly the Nagaoka and Nagato Railways.
After the Chōshū Railway was nationalized in 1925, the locomotives were reclassified as the Class 1045 and renumbered 1045 through 1047; by right, the numbering system of the Class 1045s would have clashed with the last locomotive of the Class 1040 locomotives, but this was not an issue as the latter class had been retired at that time. The locomotives were retired from JGR service in 1926, a year after the Chōshū Railway was nationalized, with 1045 and 1046 subsequently sold to the Obanazawa Railway; they were then resold a number of times to various industrial firms and retired in 1949. One locomotive on the Nagato Railway, 101, was used until 1964 by Toray Industries and then retired.
One of the derivatives, Nagato Railway 101, survives today. After retirement from service from Toray Industries, the locomotive was moved to the Takarazuka Family Land amusement park, given a brown paintjob and a front pilot and put on static display. When the park closed in 2003, the locomotive was moved to the Kaya SL Square in Yosano, Kyoto; when Kaya SL Square closed 103 was moved in 2021 to Shimonoseki and put on display at a rest stop, restored as Nagato Railway 101, with a ceremony held on 6 November 2021. In preservation the locomotive is nicknamed Nagato Poppo. No original Class 1045s have been preserved.
