
Two YG Locomotives Double Headed At DelhiCantt, India
The India Class YG were a series of 2-8-2 Mikado-type steam locomotives. They were built by Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf & Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company from 1949-1972 for the Indian Railways, and some for the Western Railways.
They were mainly mixed traffic locomotives for hauling mixed trains, as well as freight locomotives for hauling freight trains.
The YG Class 2-8-2 was the most common meter-gauge goods locomotive in post-independence India. Chittaranjan and TELCO in India and several foreign manufacturers built many of them. Indian Railways built its last steam locomotive in 1972; it was a YG.
Today there are several of these engine that were saved into preservation while some were sold for scrap.
