Illinois Central No. 2542 was originally a 2-10-2 No. 2906 in 1921 but was rebuilt to a 4-8-2 by the IC Paducah Shops in 1942 for the Illinois Central Railroad.
It was built for freight service on the Illinois central railroad, and ran in service until 1962, when it was retired and donated to the old Illinois Central depot at McComb, MS.
