Burra is a brown 0-4-0 saddle-tank steam locomotive numbered ILR 4 that operates in preservation under the Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society Ltd (ILRMS).

History[]

Burra named after the short variation of Kookaburra started life operating for the Corrimal Colliery originally operating under Corrimal and Balgownie Collieries limited but later under AIS in New South Wales. In 1946 Burra was given an overhaul by Clyde engineering.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

In 1964 Burra was withdrawn from service and taken to the Australian Iron & Steel (AIS) Locomotive workshops at Port Kembla where it was restored for static display. It was put on display in the grounds of the Australian Iron & Steel Visitors’ Centre at Port Kembla. The locomotive has been restored to operating condition (since 1994) after it had been donated to the ILRMS in 1978 and operates regularly becoming the Illawarra Light Railway Museum's flagship locomotive and is numbered 4 in their fleet.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
