The locomotive known as "Kiama" is a 0-4-0T tank engine built in 1917 by the Davenport Locomotive Works of Ohio under work number 1597.
"Kiama" was ordered for aid in construction operations as Public Works Department (PWD) No. 65 on the Cordeaux Dam Light Railway in Australia between the Nepean Gorge near Douglas Park and the Dam along Mount Keira Road between 1917 and 1926. The locomotive was them purchased by Quarries Ltd. in 1936 and then transferred to work on the Kiama Blue Metal Tramway until its closure in 1941.
The locomotive was utilized by several heritage organisations before finally being preserved by the Illawarra Light Railway Museum in 1977.
In 2015 funding had been sought from the New South Wales State Government and Transport Heritage of NSW for the construction of a new water tank and other related works to the locomotive, The works had included a new water saddle tank, boiler work, painting, and also nominal works that have been completed. 2017 saw the celebration of "Kiama’s" 100th year of operation and a return to service on the ILRMS Railway.
