The locomotive known as "Wallaby" is a 0-4-0ST built by R. & W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Company in 1913 under works number 2988.

"Wallaby" was built for the Hoskin Lithgow Steel Works to serve as the No. 2 of their fleet at a blast furnace plant. In 1932 the locomotive was transferred to Port Kembla by Australian Iron and Steel Ltd. (AIS).

In 1933 "Wallaby" spent a period of time at South Kembla Colliery before returning to AIS.

In 1962 "Wallaby"was withdrawn from service at Port Kembla and was placed on static display in 1963. In 1979 the locomotive was donated to the Illawarra Light Railway Museum and has been there ever since.
