The Hankyu 8300 series is a city commuter electric multiple unit operated by Hankyu Corporation since July 1989.

Description[]

The 8300 series trains were introduced in 1989 as a version of the Hankyu 8000 series cars for the Kyoto Main Line. They were also designed to be compatible with the Osaka Municipal Subway's Sakaisuji Line, where these sets also operate on occasion. A total of 11 sets were produced with a number of additional intermediate cars inserted into the sets or 7300 series sets on occasion.

Design[]

The 8300 series sets feature a simple, squared off design. The cars feature dual top-mounted headlights and dual rectangular express marker light units below the windows, typical of Hankyu trains; the design is based on that of the 8000 series cars.

Specifications[]

Construction of the cars is of steel. The cars use Tōyō Denki Seizō GTO variable frequency drives; both early-spec and later-spec drives are used. Some sets were refurbished with IGBT motors, also produced by Tōyō.
