The Hankyu 2300 series is a city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Hankyu Corporation since July 2024.

History[]

Details of the 2300 series, alongside the 2000 series, were first announced by Hankyu Railway on 6 October 2023. The 2300 series was developed as the "successor" model to the 1300 series cars and intended for use on express services on the Kyoto Main Line; it is intended that in the future all express trains will be comprised of 2300 series sets.

The first set, 2300, entered service on 21 July 2024, along with the PRiVACE reserved seat service; these are the first trains to feature half-abreast half-bench seating on the Hankyu network since the 9300 series sets. The sets are the recipient of the 2024 Good Design Award.

Design[]

The 2300 series feature a simple, squared off design. The cars feature dual top-mounted headlights and dual rectangular express marker light units below the windows, typical of Hankyu trains. They incorporate several styling cues synonymous with Hankyu, including maroon and ivory body coloring, wood grain veneers and "golden olive"-colored seats.

Spesifications[]

The 2300 series trains use double-skinned aluminium body construction and are manufactured by Hitachi. The sets use Tōyō Denki hybrid silicon carbide-based MOSFET drives.
