Sea Lion is a 2-4-0T side tank steam locomotive.

History[]

Sea Lion was built in 1896 by W. G. Bagnall for the Groudle Glen Railway on the Isle of Man. It was withdrawn from service in 1921 and replaced with electric locomotives. However these locos didn't function well and so Sea Lion and it's sibling which was built in 1905 were returned to service. Sea Lion stopped operating in 1939 due to the railway closing because of the 2nd world war.

When the line reopened in 1950 only Polar Bear operated until the lines closure in 1962. Sea Lion was put on display at Kirk Michael Station on the Isle of Man Railway before being moved to Loughborough in England. In 1982 the Groudle Glen Railway was restored with Sea Lion being restored from 1983 to 1987. It has been operating on the railway since and it's sibling is also operational in the UK.
