Not to be confused with Polar Bear of the same name and railway!

Polar Bear was a 0-4-0 battery electric locomotive.

History[]

Polar Bear was built as builders number 314 of 1921 by Wingrove and Rogers for the Groudle Glen Railway on the Isle of Man to replace the steam locomotive of the same name. It never worked very well and was scrapped in 1926.

Replica[]

A replica of Polar Bear was built in 2003 by Alan Keef Ltd on the chassis of one of the last Wingrove and Rogers locomotives built. It operates on the Groudle Glen Railway mainly on maintenance duties and occasional passenger trains.
