The Grand Trunk Western Class U-4b are a series of 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotives built for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad. These engines are numbered 6405 - 6410 with a total of six having been built.
These were used mainly on passenger service but every so often they were used to haul freight trains due to many GTW Norther's being occupied pulling passenger trains; in later years, the diesel-electric locomotives hauled the passenger trains when they replace steam engines, and also when its needed. The GTW U4bs, alongside the Norfolk & Western J-Class, were among the last streamlined stream locomotives to be used in regular service, with 6405 and 6407, being the class members that helped wrap up steam on the Grand Trunk Western.
GTW 6407 was offered to the City of Lansing, Michigan, but was ultimately turned away and scrapped.
These engines were all scrapped leaving no examples for preservation.
