The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6400 Class is a type of 0-6-0T pannier tank steam locomotive built to operate passenger trains on branch lines in the western region of the United Kingdom. All 40 examples were 'auto-fitted' – equipped with the remote-control equipment needed for working autotrains.
Construction and Numbering[]
A total of 40 locomotives in the 6400 Class were built, numbered 6400-6439, by Swindon Works between 1932-1937.

Withdrawal and Preservation[]
Withdrawals of the class commenced in 1958 with the last member of the class, No. 6435, being withdrawn in 1964. Only three members of the class have survived into preservation.
- No. 6412 is currently operational at the South Devon Railway.
- No. 6430 is currently operational at the South Devon Railway.
- No. 6435 is currently operational at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway.
