No. 5227 is a 5205 class 2-8-0 steam locomotive that was built for the Great Western Railway by Swindon Works in 1924.
The engine was withdrawn in 1962 and was sent to Barry Scrapyard. The engine remained and became one of the Barry Ten, it was purchased by the Didcot Railway Centre in 2010 to provide parts to the construction of GWR 4700 class No. 4709.
The engine’s Standard No. 4 Boiler, a pony truck wheel set, 2 pony truck axleboxes, 4 horn guides and 2 eccentric sheaves are being transferred to the new built Churchward County GWR 3800 Class No. 3840 County of Montgomery.
After donating parts, it was sold to an individual who intends to restore the locomotive to working order, including manufacture of new parts to replace those removed for use in new build projects.
