No. 3862 is a Great Western Railway (GWR) 2884 Class 2-8-0 steam locomotive built at Swindon Works in 1942. The 2884s were designed to handle heavy freight work during World War ll.

No. 3862 was at first based at Oxford where it was utilized to move essential wartime materials and supplies. In 1947 it was transferred to Pontypool Road for a six year period before going onto Plymouth Laira at the end of 1953.

No. 3862 was withdrawn from service in 1965 and was sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers at Barry. The locomotive was purchased by the LNWR Preservation Society in 1987 and departed the scrapyard in 1989.

No. 3862 is now currently located on the Northampton and Lamport Railway and is slowly being restored to full running condition.
