The Fuji Minobu Railway Class 200 was a Japanese DC electric locomotive operated by the Fuji Minobu Railway and later other railway companies from February 1927 to March 1959.

History

The Class 200 was an early electric locomotive used in Japan. Five locomotives were manufactured in February 1927 by the Kawasaki Shipyards for the Fuji Minobu Railway; these entered service the same year. These were mainly used to pull freight trains and were numbered 200 through 204.

200 was transferred to the Sanshin Railway in 1941 and reclassified as the Class DeKi 501; it was renumbered 501. The remaining locomotives on the Fuji Minobu Railway remained with the company; with the Fuji Minobu Railway's nationalization on 1 May 1941, the locomotives were acquired by the Japanese National Railways, reclassified as the JNR Class ED20 and renumbered ED20 1 through ED20 4. DeKi 501 would not be reclassified as a Class ED20 and retained its original classification. DeKi 501 would be scrapped in 1949 after being out of service for a number of years following the Pacific War. All ED20s were withdrawn from service by March 1959.

No ED20s have been preserved.

Specifications

The Class 200 used a nose suspension drive system. MT36 traction motors were used on the locomotives. Regenerative braking was fitted on the locomotives.
