The Eidan 3000 series is a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (Eidan) from April 1961 to July 1994.
History[]
The 3000 series was a completely new design that was conceived in 1961 as a new train that could through-run through to Tobu and Tokyu lines while satisfying conditions for both lines. The first set, 3001, was delivered in January 1961; it entered service on 28 April 1961.
As the 3000 series sets' age began to show, they were slowly replaced by 03 series sets starting in 1988; the last 3000 series set, set 3055, was retired from regular service on 23 July 1994, sporting a special whale livery to commemorate the event, and was replaced with a 03 series set shortly after. A total of 38 sets (and one additional car acting as a replacement car) were built, for a total of 305 cars. After their lives on the TRTA, some cars were transferred to the Nagano Electric Railway. Two cars, 3001 and 3002, were returned to Tokyo Metro after they were retired from the Nagano Electric Railway; they were preserved at Ayase Depot but were later moved to Senju Depot, where they remain today.
The trains ran services on the TRTA Hibiya Line (now known as the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line) and performed through-running services through to the Tokyu Tōyoko Line and the Tobu Isesaki Line.
Design[]
The 3000 series sets' design is standard for many sets of the time.
Specifications[]
Construction is of stainless steel. Cars are 18 meters long, 2.79 meters wide and 3.73 – 3.875 meters high. All sets use resistor control, which was standard for the time.
