The Eidan 1900 series was a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (Eidan) from February 1959 to February 1987.

History[]

The 1900 series was a completely new design that was conceived in 1958 as a new train that could be used as the standard train on the TRTA Ginza Line. Two cars were produced by Teikoku Sharyō and served as the prototype for the 2000 series trains; they were virtually identical to the 2000 series cars but featured a driving cab on both ends.

The cars were removed from use as leading cars in 1985, with any use from then on being intermediate cars in other formations. Due to an increase in 01 series sets, the set was withdrawn in February 1987 and scrapped.

Design[]

The 1900 series sets' design is standard for many sets of the time.

Specifications[]

Construction is of stainless steel. The cars were the first trains on the TRTA to use the Cardan drive shaft, and were the last cars to be built with driving cabs that could be used as intermediate cars on the TRTA.
