efACE (Environmentally Friendly Advanced Commuter & Express Train) is the family name Kawasaki Railcar Manufacturing uses for their standardized railcar designs, using a variety of weight saving measures and other measures to make production of the cars more environmentally friendly. The cars use materials such as stainless steel and aluminum which can be recycled.
Two types of cars have been produced; stainless steel cars and aluminum cars. The aluminum cars feature a "harmonica" structure which allows them to be manufactured easier, as well as other optimizations allowing for easier rearranging of interior equipment; these cars are also made of a double-skinned aluminum alloy. The stainless steel cars feature the use of laser welding as well as the same interior optimizations.
The cars come in a wide variety of design styles to cater to various needs.
