Eastern Star Railway No. 00174 is a class F1 2-4-2T tank engine that was built in 1997 by Severn Lamb of Straford-up-Avon in England.
In 1998, one year after being built, #00174 was sold to Disney's Animal Kingdom where it operates for the Wildlife Express to takes guests from Africa to Rafiki's Planet Watch and back.
As of today the locomotive is still operational on the Wildlife Express at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Trivia[]
- This is the only locomotive that still wears the water buffalo skull above the smokebox in front of the smokestack because the ones on the other 2 locomotives No. 04982, and No. 02594 were removed most likely they were damaged.
- However, as of August 2024, No. 04982 and No. 02594 have had their buffalo skulls reinstalled.
- Although the engine is a 2-4-2T it is actually a 2-4-2TDH steam-outline locomotive.
- While the locomotive is a class F1 it is actually based on the L&YR Class 5 and Class 6 locomotives.
- The builder's plate of the locomotive states that it were built in 1926 by Beyer, Peacock & Company at Gorton Foundry.
