The East Tennessee & Western North Carolina #11 is a 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler built in June 1916 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania.
History[]
#11 was regarded as the "Crew Favorite" among the ET&WNC Crews. As such, it saw the most use out of all the locomotives on the ET&WNC, especially in the later years. The locomotive would have the dubious honor of pulling the last Narrow Gauge train on the ET&WNC on October 16, 1950. Following retirement, the #11 along with her older sister #9, were offered to both the cities of Johnson City and Elizabethton, Tennessee for donation. However, both cities turned them down. Both engines was scrapped in 1952.
Trivia[]
- While Locomotive #11 no longer exists, East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad #12 still does, and can be found at the Tweetsie Railroad Theme Park in Blowing Rock, NC.
