East Broad Top Railroad No. 14 is the next 2-8-2 Mikado for extention after #12 Millie of the trailing truck design started with #11. #14 was basically an enlarged #12 to point of still being able to operated on 60# rail the EBT was using at the time. In a test it hauled 40 (wooden) empty cars up the mountain, more that twice anything before #11 . it worked pretty much up until the closing in 1956. it was the third loco to be reactivated, coming back about 1961. it work into the early 70's and had to be sidelined for several years because of the extensive work needed. In 1987 it was mechanically rebuilt and refitted and brought back into operation. Since then, it and #15 have been the primary excursion engines, with #12 Millie as backup. #14 was taken out of service in 2005, due to noncompliance of FRA regulations governing safe operation of steam locomotives. In 2022, work to restore #14 to operation was progressing alongside #16, but this was halted due to the greater amount of work involved than was originally anticipated. As a result, sister #15 was chosen to be restored instead, because it was found to be in better mechanical condition. Restoration of #14 may possibly continue after #16 and #15 are completed, as resources permit.
