The E723 series is a Japanese tilting limited express electric multiple unit on order by the East Japan Railway Company intended to enter service from fall 2026.
History[]
The E723 series sets are designed for use on the Ōu Main Line between Fukushima and Shinjō; these are intended to replace the 701 and 719 series sets used on that portion of the line. A total of 22 cars, formed into 11 two-car sets and numbered in the E723-5000 series, are expected to be introduced in fall 2026.
Design[]
The E723 series sets feature a design mimicking that of other railcars manufactured for JR East in recent years, such as the HB-E220 series. The E723-5000 series sets adopt the color scheme of the 701-5000 and 719-5000 series sets used on the Ōu Main Line.
Specifications[]
Construction is of stainless steel. The cars feature wider bench seats to improve comfort, a multi-purpose "free space" and barrier-free Western-style toilets. The sets are capable of wanman operation.
