Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range No. 506 is an E-1 Class 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type steam locomotive that was built by the American Locomotive Company's (ALCO) Brook Works in 1919 for the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway.

The DM&IR Class E-1 was comprised of 10 locomotives which were originally based on the USRA Light Santa Fe design. They were the epitome of the slow drag engine, not really capable of rolling more than 35 or 40 MPH without dire consequences to the track. No. 506 and its siblings were primarily used to pull slow drag freight and coal trains.

While the other nine members of the E-1 Class were gradually retired from active service and scrapped by the early 1950s, No. 506 continued to work into the early 1960s. It was eventually withdrawn in 1962 and was donated to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin where it has remained on static display ever since.
