Disneyland Railroad No. 1 "C.K. Holliday" a 4-4-0 American type steam locomotive built by the Walt Disney Studios in 1954. It was one of 2 such engines built specifically for use at Disneyland, the other locomotive being #2, the "E.P. Ripley."

History[]

During the contstruction of the Holliday and Ripley, Walt Disney's 1/8th Scale "Lilly Belle" locomotive (Which itself is based on Central Pacific Railroad #173) was used as a point of reference. The Holliday specifically is said to essentially be a blown-up version of the Lilly Belle.

When Disneyland first opened, the Disneyland Railroad was technically 2 different attractions. You had the option of boarding the train at either Main Street U.S.A. or Frontierland, and depending on which station you boarded at, you'd get a different ride experience. Holliday's train departed from Frontierland, and stuck passengers in freight cars. With no benches or seats, passengers were usually forced to stand, in an attempt to make passengers feel like livestock on a train. Needless to say, the Frontierland train proved to be troublesome, and the Retlaw 2 Freight Cars (The name of the freight consist), would be converted into the Holiday 2 Coaches (A.K.A Holiday Red), which proved to be far more popular. So much so, 2 additional "Holiday" Coach sets, known as Holiday 4 (Holiday Green) and Holiday 5 (Holiday Blue) would quickly follow.

As of today, it's still operational at Disneyland on the Disneyland Railroad.
