The locomotive known as "Thomas Bach" was built in 1904 by the Hunslet Engine Company under works number 849. It was delivered new to the Dinorwic Quarry the same year. Originally running as No. 7, this locomotive later received the name "Wild Aster" after a racehorse.

In 1969 the locomotive was purchased by the Llanberis Lake Railway. At this point it had been about ten years since the locomotive had worked in the quarry and was in a worn-out state. Completely rebuilt at the workshops, it returned to service in 1988, now carrying the name "Thomas Bach" ('Little Thomas'), the nickname of its regular driver in quarry days.

"Thomas Bach" still resides at The Llanberis Lake Railway in steam to this day along with some of the other former Dinorwic Slate Quarry locomotives.
