Jonathan was constructed by the Hunslet Engine Company as works number 678 of 1898 for use in the Dinorwic Slate Quarry, Llanberis, North Wales. Jonathan was originally named The First and then renamed Bernstein which was the name it carried for the rest of it's working life at Dinorwic. It was sold to a private owner in 1967 and renamed Jonathan it's first appearance as such was on the Groudle Glen Railway in 1998 it has since operated on the West Lancashire Light Railway and Bala Lake Railway. Jonathan was then on display at the Lytham Motive Power Museum (with a lime green livery reading Lytham Creek Railway No.10) which has since closed (with Jonathan still inside) this was Jonathans last public appearance to date.
