Rebecca is a 0-4-0WT well tank steam locomotive which worked in Argentina and now operates at the Devon Railway Centre in England.

History[]

Rebecca was built in 1912 by Orenstein and Koppel of Berlin, Germany as builder's number 5744[1][2][3] to their standard 20 hp design.[4] She was built to 600mm gauge (1 foot 11 5⁄8 inch) for use in Argentina, and operated by the Ferrocarril del Sud (FCS), working on the construction of a barrage over the Río Neuquen to form the Lago Pellagrini reservoir,[4] upon this projects completion she ended up at Mono Azul at Vista Algre South in Centenario[4] with no known identity.[1] It was sold derelict to the Devon Railway Centre by Preston Services who imported the loco in April,[5] England in 2005,[4] being restored to full working order in 2013,[6] numbered 14, and named Rebecca.[2][3] Rebecca continues to operate at the Devon Railway Centre as the organisation's only steam locomotive.[6]
