The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Class 25 was a class of 2-4-0 "Porter" narrow-gauge steam locomotives, with four examples being built by Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (later the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad) in 1871.

History[]

Four examples of what became the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Class 25 were ever constructed, Nos. 1, 4, 6, 7. All four were built in by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1871 and they were delivered to Denver and Rio Grande Railroad that same year.

Nos. 1, 4, and 7 were withdrawn from active service in 1888, and none of the three were preserved. Nos. 1 and 4 were both scrapped in July 1888, with No. 7 being scrapped later in November. No. 6 went on to Denver RR Land & Coal in November 1886, later ending up on the Colorado Eastern. It supposedly went on to Leadville Smelter after 1915, but the whereabouts after that are unknown.
