Delaware & Hudson No. 1508 was a class J-95 4-6-6-4 "Challenger" type steam locomotive owned by the Delaware & Hudson railroad.

History[]

Built by Alco in 1940 this challenger was built for the Delaware & Hudson railroad to haul freight trains for much of its career.

While the locomotive itself was retired and sold for scrap in the early 1950s, the tender of #1508 has been preserved. It's in Binghamton, NY.

Trivia[]

  • There was a Delaware & Hudson RS3 diesel which was also #1508. It was built for the Boston & Maine and is now on static display at the Railroad Museum of New England, relettered as New York Central #1508.
