No. 64 305 is a Class 64 2-6-2T steam locomotive that was built by Krupps in Essen in 1934 for for the German state railway Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG).
Its first Allocation in 1934 was to Rbd Köln at Geldern Shed before being transferred in March 1943 to Rbd Nürnberg at Würzburg Shed. At the end of World War Two the German Railways were split within East & West Germany. 64305 came under the “Deutsches Bundesbahn” (DB) West Germany State Railway. Between 1964 & 1967 Würzburg Shed closed to steam with the remaining locomotives transferred to Nürnberg shed.
Steam powered locomotives were being phased out in Germany in the 1970s and No. 64 305 was transferred to Weiden shed in March 1974 before it was finally withdrawn from service in June 1974.
The locomotive was then purchased by a group of members of the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) and moved to Bridgnorth in the United Kingdom in 1974. However it proved to be too large to be used on the SVR was instead sold to the Nene Valley Railway in August 1977. It ran on the railway for a time appearing in several films and shows until it was withdrawn and placed into storage in 1987 pending an overhaul.
In 2023 it was acquired by BayernBahn GmbH and was exported overseas to the Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum at Nördlingen, Bayern in Southern Germany where it will eventually undergo restoration.
