Cliffside Railroad No. 110 is a 52 ton Light Prairie tender type steam locomotive of a style common to logging railroads in the flatter parts of the US. It's at the New Hope Valley Railway where it's placed under restoration.

History[]

The locomotive was built by Vulcan Iron Works in 1927, for the McRae Lumber & Manufacturing Co. #1 at Quincy, FL where it worked hauling log trains.

In 1933, it was sold to the Birmingham Rail & Locomotive Co. (dealer) and later the Cliffside Railroad #110 at Cliffside, NC where it operated until it's retirement from revenue service in 1962.

In 1963, it was Sold to the Echo Valley Park (Swamp Rabbit RR #110) at Cleveland, SC and later sold to the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad in Georgia where it was given the name "Yonah".

The #110 last operated under steam in 1983, while the running gear came unglued in the fall of 1984 while being pushed by a diesel. It was patched up enough to move but was never operated on a train again. It sat at the shop for about 10 years and was then moved to the main station for display.

Today the engine is at the New Hope Valley Railway.

Trivia[]
