The Chesapeake Western Railway (CHW) is an intrastate railroad in west-central Virginia and is an operating subsidiary of the Norfolk Southern Railway.
History[]
Two CHW DS 4-4-660 locomotives, Nos. 662 and 663, were retired from service in 1964 and wound up in the Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal Co. scrap yard in Roanoke, VA, where they sat rusting for over forty years along with four Norfolk & Western steam locomotives (Nos. 917, 1118, 1134, and 1151) becoming part of a small collection known as the "Lost Engines of Roanoke."
They were later saved from the scrapyard and are now preserved.
