Sierra Railway No. 3 as it appeared as "Central Pacific Railroad No. 131"in "Back to the Future Part 3".

The Central Pacific No. 131 was a 4-4-0 "American Standard" type steam locomotive. It was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in November 1868 for the Central Pacific Railroad & it was named Greyhound.

It was used on the Central Pacific Railroad to haul both passenger trains, and freight trains.

The locomotive was sold to an unknown buyer in January 1872.

After it was sold to an unknown buyer the locomotive operated on the Central Pacific railroad for a couple of more years until it was sold to scrap in 1892.

  • Sierra Railway No. 3 masqueraded as the 131 for the Back to the Future Part III movie.
    • The Central Pacific railroad did have 4-6-0's similar to #3 at the time the film was set in the year 1885.
    • Since 2018, No. 3 dressed up as #131 to celebrate "Back to 1885", also known as "Robbery on the Rails" to celebrate the movie based on scenes from the film.
