
The EMD SD9 is a six-axle diesel locomotive that was built by the Electro-Motive Division for several railroads across the US and they were a successor to the EMD SD7 in EMD's catalog, developed alongside its 4-axle counterpart, known as the EMD GP9. The SD9 utilized a 16-567C prime mover generating 1,750 hp (1.30 MW). It was relatively popular, with a total of 171 units being produced for US railroads, and 44 units for export across the world.
