Myrtle

Carbon Limestone Co. No. 3, named Myrtle, is a 2-4-0 steam locomotive built in 1943 by H. K. Porter for the Carbon Limestone Company.

#3 was originally used to move limestone from the carbon limestone quarry to a nearby crusher/distribution facility.

The Lahaina Kaanapali and Pacific railroad purchaced the #3, and altered the appearance of this engine to look like a typical oil-burning engine from the early 20th century.

  • The No. 3's design, name and number were inspired by a historic sugar cane engine built in 1900 for the Hawaii Railroad and retired in 1945.
  • In 2012 the locomotive struck a car at a grade crossing. Luckily, nobody was hurt, and the locomotive only received minor damage.
