CSX Transportation No. 372 is a AC44CW type diesel locomotive built by General Electric (GE) in November 1998 for CSX Transportation. It is one of CSX's older diesels still in operation today as of March 2024.
On February 20, 2014, 372 was the lead locomotive of CSX train Q125-19 with CSX No. 7921, a C40-8W type diesel, serving as the Trailing Locomotive when 372 struck a hospital bed stuck on the tracks on a railroad bridge in Georgia. The hospital bed was being used as part of a film shooting segment for the unfinished film "Midnight Rider", in which Gregg Allman, who was to be played by William Hurt, was in the hospital bed as part of a dream sequence for the film. The film crew saw the headlights of the train and knew that it was coming on them fast. The Engineer on board of 372 had noticed and then immediately blew the horn on full blast for over twenty seconds before the putting the Train into Emergency. The film crew were frantically struggling to move the hospital bed off of the tracks before the train would cross the bridge, but unfortunately, it was too late. The hospital bed was struck and broke apart into many small pieces of metal, which became shrapnel flying through the air. A large piece of the hospital bed, still being dragged by the train, hit 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones and dragged herself towards the train itself, in which she was killed.
After this tragedy, three of Sarah Jones's co-workers went to court after CSX has sent them multiple emails denying them permission to shoot on the bridge, but they blatantly ignored this notice. In addition to trespassing, Jones's relatives filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the production team of Midnight Rider. Jones's relatives ended up winning for a $3.9,000,000 settlement. Later on, William Hurt backed out of his role, and shortly afterwards, Midnight Rider was officially cancelled all together. Even Gregg Allman himself, the lead singer in the Allman Brothers Band, showed sorrow for Sarah Jones and even went to court against the film's director, Randall Miller, to prevent him from reviving the film. Because if the film was to be released, the only thing that viewers would focus on was Sarah Jones and not Gregg Allman.
